best bed: Steigenberger Wiltcher’s, Brussels, Belgium

The Steigenberger Wiltcher'sA Belgian grande dame, the Wiltcher’s first opened in 1913. It was, and still is, the most elegant hotel. Named after the first man in charge, English hotelier Sidney Wiltcher, the hotel  is a wonderful art nouveau palace,. While the stunning historic façade remains, the interior underwent a 2 ½ year renovation after it was acquired by the Steigenberger group in 2013.  The Wiltcher’s retains its classic old world feel with a grand orchid filled lobby and high ceiling’s in the cool elegant rooms. Located just off the Avenue Louise, the Park Avenue of Brussels, the area feels posh not touristy. It’s a beautiful walk to most things hip and historic in the city. Or grab an Uber and head to the Atomium. Packed with tourists and locals for good reason… it is spectacular. But boy will you be glad to get back to the soothing luxury of the Steigenberger Wiltcher’s.  The concierge is divine. He managed to find us a gourmet restaurant gem on a holiday Sunday.

Number of Rooms: 267

Sweet Suite: The Royal Suite because it has it all… a dining room, a master with a spa style bathroom complete with hot tub and steam shower, kitchenette … and best of all a living room with an open fireplace. It also comes with divine Aigner amenities.

Favorite Thing: The size of the rooms… they are huge! I had a superior room, the starter category and it was enormous with two floor to ceiling windows that overlooked the grand entrance of the hotel, a sitting area and big marble bathroom. It was incredible value… All the higher category rooms are even larger. Amazing!

Near By: The prestigious (and expensive) Ave. Louise with its high end shops, historic landmarks and beautiful embassies; Musees Royaux des Beaux-Arts; Musical Instrument Museum; The Horta Museum; the Cathedral; subway and tram; 20 minute walk to the Grand Place

Amenities: two restaurants, award winning Loui Bar, 24 hour room service, outdoor terrace, fitness area, free Wi-Fi, complementary water, tea & coffee in room, non-smoking hotel except for cigar lounge, fee to use spa with pool, sauna & steam
