Tofino Resort & Marina

best bed: Tofino Resort and Marina, Tofino, Canada

Jack Vogel exploring the hot springs while we were staying at Tofino Resort & MarinaTRM, as it affectionately known, is one of those wonderful little places that has something to offer everyone at great rates. Sitting on four acres in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve on the edge of Pacific Rim National Park,  it started life as 1970’s style motel. The views look out to one of the largest temperate rainforests on Vancouver Island. The current owners, who include professional hockey player, 2 time Stanley Cup winner Willie Mitchell, completely renovated the property from the ground up for the July 2017 reopening. The rooms now have a fabulous simple Scandinavian vibe with shockingly comfortable beds and terrific giant Jeremy Koreski photos of BC. on the walls. The full service marina can accept boats up to 130 feet. Harbor Air flies regularly from downtown Vancouver to the dock in only 45 minutes.  Clients include the aspirational lifestyle crowd who use the property as a springboard for all things adventure including surfing, fishing, free diving and forest bathing. Serious foodies come to eat at the 1909 Restaurant. Canada’s Top chef winner Paul Moran heads the kitchen. His food, a mix of foraged and local is creative, adventurous and always delicious. Try his fresh sea urchin, tuna taco or white pizza if they are on the menu and sit outside if the weather permits. The views over the Inlet are amazing, we watched eagles circle as we dined. For somewhat less gourmet offerings and a more relaxed vibe there is the Hatch Waterfront Pub that specializes in craft beer… 14 are on tap at all times. Collaboration dinners with other west coast top chefs are held regularly and are very well worth a special trip. TRM’s motto is “inspired by adventure”  you will leave inspired by the food, the location, the rooms, Tofino and the price!

Number of Rooms: 63

Sweet Suite: The King Suites on the 3rd floor with a balcony facing the Marina… these suites come with great views over the marina and a separate lounge area with a pull out double sofa that is perfect if you are traveling with your 20 year old son as I was.

Favorite Thing: The Adventure Center. They organized a private day trip for us that was absolutely amazing! We saw three different kinds of whales, otters, seals, eagles, splashed around in the hot springs and wandered along a cedar boardwalk through a Majestic old growth forest. The restaurant prepared us a fabulous delicious and huge  picnic lunch which we ate while boating along the stunning west side of Vancouver Island. It was a magical day! They can arrange fishing trips, free diving certification, paddle board lessons and bear watching too.

Near By: Tofino town is only a 5 minute walk away. Here you will find the famous Wolf in the Fog Restaurant, kayaking tours (go early in the morning for the most peaceful experience), surfing, shopping, a tiny museum and many other restaurants

Amenities: huge modern gym, 2 restaurants, pets welcome, coffee maker in the room, mini fridge, free Wi-Fi, 40” TV, housecoats, onsite marina, gift shop, Business Centre, adventure Centre, private event space, cook what you catch service at the restaurant
