the spa at Nyungwe House

best bed: Nyungwe House, Gisakura, Rwanda

picking tea at Nyungwe House Nyungwe House ticks so many of my top boxes…adventurous, luxurious and remote! This charming hotel is located in the middle of a working tea plantation in the middle of the mountains of Rwanda. Picking tea is very specific and very hard work. I tried it. You will never appreciate your cuppa more. The resort became part of the uber luxury One & Only group in 2017. They did a huge renovation to bring it up to their very high standard. All rooms have balconies, four poster beds, deep bathtubs and  fireplaces. The décor is inspired by traditional Rwandan design They are so comfortable. Nearby Nyungwe National Park is one of the last rainforest habitats left on earth. It is home to more than 13 different species of primates though it is the chimpanzees that attract the most tourists. Nyungwe House sits right on the edge of this national park. The diversity of animals makes it one of the country’s most important places for conservation. The resort not only supports the park but many of the local communities too by hiring locally, sourcing food from nearby farmers and by promoting goods that are made nearby. I am usually wary about places where all meals are included. Well, there is nothing to worry about here. The food was amazing…tasty and healthy…plentiful and diverse. Over three days, I ate in a different stunning spot for every meal and enjoyed every bite! You will not go hungry. I had to ask for smaller portions. The guides and staff are terrific, knowledgeable, proud and helpful. This is a magical place where every comfort is met and you feel like you are doing good for the planet!
