Grand Hotel Imperiale

best bed: Grand Hotel Imperiale, Moltrasio, Lake Como, Italy

Grand Hotel ImperialeGrand Hotel Imperiale is a  family-owned gem on the banks of Lake Como. It was built in 1922, though the main building is quite modern;  there are still a few traces of its Art Nouveau heritage. I recommend staying in the historic Villa Imperiale, kind of a mini 12-room hotel with in the larger resort. This unique villa is located across the road beside the lake; near the pool and the gourmet Restaurant Imperialino. These rooms are traditionally elegant with large marble bathrooms and loads of charm. Mine had a small balcony and a huge view. No worries about crossing the surprisingly busy road to get to the main building, bar and breakfast patio. There is a tunnel for hotel guests that saves you having to dodge traffic. The gardens are stunning, the service faultless. In a very expensive part of Italy, the Hotel Imperiale is extremely good value. If you stay in the main building, I recommend booking a deluxe spa room and up.

Number of Rooms: 121

Sweet Suite: The panorama suite because of its incredible private terrace with its own jacuzzi and large sunning area. The bedroom and bathroom are pretty wonderful too.

Favorite Thing: The Restaurant Imperialino in the garden beside the lake. Not only is the location beyond stunning with to die for views, the food is fabulous. The focus is on  ingredients, carefully sourced and then prepared into gourmet fabulousness. The service is spectacular too. I felt like a Queen.

Near By: ferry dock, a few restaurants in Moltrasio, 20 minutes to the town of Como, lake front garden, Lake Como

Amenities: 2 bars, 2 restaurants, spa, tennis court, putting green, fitness centre, jacuzzi, kids club, pet friendly, Regina Bar with pianist
