The unimpressive exterior  belies the old world opulence within.  Regent Berlin feels like it has been a part of Berlin’s  history since the glory days of the German Empire. Yet, this former Four Season went through a massive renovation only  becoming a Regent hotel in 2004. The lobby is filled with antiques and a grand piano, the perfect place for a high tea lesson. The in house Tea Academy teaches the do’s and don’ts of proper tea handling by a master. This address has been famous since 1812 when the first incarnation of the famous Lutter & Wagner restaurant opened on this corner location. It was the go to place for generations. Bismarck, Kaiser Wilhelm I, Josephine Baker and Marlene Dietrich all were guests. The original building was flattened during WWII, a hotel went up in the early 90’s. The glamour of this illustrious history is reflected in the current décor. Rooms are large, decorated in classic, simple Biedermeier style. Every bathroom has both a tub and a walk in shower, many have spectacular views.  Regent Berlin’s acclaimed restaurant, Charlotte & Fritz has collaborated with Veuve Clicquot to create a 4 course champagne menu served at a unique handmade table… book in advance for a true special occasion within this classic 5 star haven.

Sweet Suite: The Gendarmenmarkt Suite, not the biggest but plenty big enough… I love it for the open fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, the balcony and the amazing views!!! Berlin is a surprisingly picturesque city with a stunning mix of architecture.

Favorite Thing: the spa… hotel gyms can be pretty sterile; the Spa at Regent Berlin feels like a wonderful posh old club. The fitness area has wood paneling and techno gym equipment, the dressing rooms are elegant, well-appointed and comfortable. The saunas are separate for men and women… delightful, because sometimes ,let’s face it, it’s just less stressful especially if you prefer to sauna au natural. The massage menu is extensive.

Near By: Konzerthaus (concert hall in English, I just love the German name!), Friedrichstrasse for the best high end shopping, Unter den Linden (a fabulous avenue to walk), the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Unesco Heritage Museum Island, Gendarmenmarkt Square
